Even at equal weights. Strength, speed, agility, grappling ability and additional weaponary favor the cougar.

When a pack brings down a moose, then itīs not a big difference to an older male bringing down a moose without the pack. I saw a video of a single wolf easily bringing down a healthy rather big elk in YNP. An elk is not a moose, but seeing how easily the wolf brings the elk down, itīs not so hard to believe that he could prevail against a moose cow. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqkBX2oGWOw (note he easily brings the elk down without the pack)

Its probably best you keep claims of single wolves killing adult moose in perspective. Wolverines have killed adult moose too, but there were clear reasons behind that too. |

And yet, cougars don't kill adult moose, let alone musk ox or bison. Wolves have singlehandedly killed all of the above. I guess the cougar's superiority over wolves, at parity or otherwise, is an illusion. Obviously breaking it down like this-

Is an inadequate and flawed analysis, as wolves actually prove themselves superior by taking larger more dangerous prey. The above attributes aren't the be all and end all, there's more to it and the proof is in the pudding.
